Project Description

One of the greatest moral sins America (and almost every other nation on earth) committed in the past was the sin of slavery.  Human beings were captured, ripped from their families, bought and sold, and suffered lives of perpetual bondage doing manual labor under harsh conditions.

We are often told by morally superior members of our generation that because our Founders participated in and silently endorsed this behavior that we should rid our history and heritage of them. We are told that they are so morally reprehensible that we should completely reject the system of self-government of the people, by the people, and for the people that they established.

While it is morally reprehensible to treat human beings as sub-human property, deny them their liberty as free men and women, and then commit them to a life of unending torture and forced labor, there is a new stain on the American conscience that is even more reprehensible than slavery.  The same morally superior liberals who denounce slavery, however, wholeheartedly support this new American sin.  Of course, the sin I’m referring to is that of abortion.

Abortion claims the lives of over 3,700 children per day – mostly brown and black children in poor neighborhoods.  Half of America believes this to be the greatest evil the country has ever endorsed, while the other half believes it to be not only necessary but a moral right to protect women from the “burden” of an unwanted pregnancy.

Who are the advocates of abortion?  Are they morally superior to the slave owners of the past, or are they the modern day manifestation of those slave owners?

Consider the parallels:

Slave owners of the pre-Civil War era

Abortion rights activists of today

Believed that slaves were sub-human and therefore not protected  by the laws of the Constitution. Believe that unborn children are sub-human and unworthy of personhood unless it is granted them by their parents. The unborn are also not protected by the laws of the Constitution.
Believed that slaves were property and that government had no right to tell them how they treated their property. Believe that the unborn are the property of their mothers and that the government has no right to tell them how they may treat their property.
Believed that it was more merciful and beneficial to be a slave in America than a free person in Africa. Believe that it is more merciful and better to be a dead baby than a living unwanted one.
Believed that the economy would collapse if the slaves were permitted to go free. “Who would care for all these needy souls?” Believe that the economy would collapse if unborn unwanted children were allowed to enjoy the gift of life. “Who will care for all these needy children?”
Had the endorsement of the Supreme Court which ruled that human slaves were indeed property in the 1857 Dred Scott decision. Have the endorsement of the Supreme Court which ruled that a mother’s right to kill supersedes a child’s right to live. in the infamous 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.
Profited from this practice making millions of dollars on the backs of enslaved humans Profit greatly, making billions off the bodies of dead babies.  One report concluded that Planned Parenthood collected one billion dollars in 2006 through abortion services alone.
Couldn’t call it what it was but instead referred to it with the righteous euphemism “state’s rights” Can’t call it what it is but instead dress it up with the righteous euphemism “reproductive rights.”

Are we in “déjà-vu all over again?”  The pro-slavery advocates have been replaced with pro-abortion advocates.  Like their pro-slavery forefathers, the pro-abortion supporters of today claim that abortion is good for the economy, necessary, and even moral.

Proponents of abortion say it is necessary because it makes it just as easy for the mother to walk away from the pregnancy as it does the father, and that’s only fair.  I’m sure the baby would like a say in what’s fair, too, since his or her life depends on it!  If the father walks away, and the mother aborts, how do these two wrongs make a right?

In the 1800’s, a few “radicals” spoke out against slavery, but the nation at large accepted it despite its obvious immorality and its direct contradiction to our declared belief that all men are created equal, and endowed by their Creator will certain unalienable Rights, “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Except for a dedicated few who have led the charge to undo abortion on demand, most Americans have responded by doing nothing. When will we learn that we cannot be lulled into complacency by the persistent selfishness and empty arguments of the morally bankrupt? When will we learn that the Supreme Court can make mistakes, too? When the Court declared slaves to be mere property, denying them the Liberty described in the Declaration of Independence, they were wrong.  When they declared the unborn child to be mere property, denying them of Life, they were wrong again.

When I think of the high cost to eliminate slavery, and the exponentially greater evil of abortion, I, like Jefferson, “tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that his justice cannot sleep forever.”  Our forefathers were wrong to own slaves, but we are even more reprehensible for allowing abortion.  We look down our noses at the Founding generation because they denied liberty to hundreds of thousands of people.  I wonder how our descendants will view us for denying life to millions of unborn children?
